To make it easier for people with disabilities to get on and off our vehicles, the WVG has upgraded its entire fleet to low-floor buses. This type of bus is easier to use because there are no steps in the entrance area. With the help of an electronic air suspension system, the buses can be lowered by approximately eight centimeters so that the level of the vehicle virtually reaches the ground. In addition, around 80 percent of all WVG buses are equipped with a folding ramp in the entrance area. To ensure that only low-floor buses with a ramp are used on a particular route, wheelchair users can call the WVG on 05361/ 189 8899 two days before traveling. Staff will then ensure that a low-floor bus with a ramp is used and will be on hand to assist.
Severely disabled people can travel free of charge in all VRB buses and trams. They are also entitled to free second-class travel on all DB Regio AG trains (except InterCity trains) which are not subject to a supplement and which are covered by the ticketing system. To claim free travel, severely disabled passengers must produce a disabled ID card with an orange marking and supplementary page with a valid travel token. Accompanying persons may also travel free of charge if the disabled ID card states “Person to be accompanied at all times” or the letter “B” is not deleted.
